Getting Here
Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge is approximately 6 hours drive from Kilimanjaro International Airport and 5 hours from the city and Arusha Domestic Airport. We are located close to the South of Lake Natron, close to the "Natron Gate", next to the village of Engaresero.
The lodge is located in a preservation zone, therefore, independently of the lodge, you must pay the gate fee (entrance fee to the Lake Natron Conservation Zone) of $35 per person, valid for the entire stay.
Please note that you will also have to pay at the gate, by credit card, a tourist tax per person per night to the Tanzanian government of :
- 35.4 PP per night in camping
- 29.5 PP per night in room
By car
Whether you are coming from Kilimanjaro or Arusha, you will take a tarmac road to Mto wa Mbu (2 hours) and then a beautiful path along the Rift Valley from Mto wa Mbu to Engaresero (3 hours). A 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
By bus
You can take the local bus from Arusha station (bus direction Loliondo), departure 6 AM and a second one at 7.30 AM from Arusha station. The bus stops at the Natron Gate and the village of Engaresero. Our Eco Lodge is located 1 km walk from the village. To go back Arusha one bus leaves Engaresero village at 8.30 AM and the second one at 10 AM.
The ticket costs 30.000 TZS/pers (about 13$) and we advise you to buy it the day before to make sure you have a seat.
By bike
For the brave who wish to join us by bike, it is quite feasible. You will take the same road as the 4-wheelers which is passable for bicycles.
